Virtual mobility means that two or more universities and schools offer students a virtual trip abroad: There will be an opportunity to acquire a number of ECTS-points at one of the foreign partner universities or through a joint activity. The ECTS-points from this international experience will then be counted to the student's degree at his/her home university. There is an obvious need for virtual mobility. The European ministers of Education hope that soon 3 million European students will have taken one or more courses in another country. After that, the aim is about 300.000 mobile students each year. In order to realize this, virtual mobility and Erasmus will both be contributing.

Virtual Mobility 101, the introductory course to VM for students, is one of the products of the EU project  Ready for Virtual Mobility (MoreVM)  (2007-2009), sponsored by DG Education and Culture (LifeLongLearning). The general objective of the MoreVM project is to facilitate virtual mobility, encourage participation and enhance efficiency of virtual mobility in higher education. Specific objectives of the project are preparing students for virtual mobility and raising awareness of the importance of virtual mobility, provide support for colleges/universities in organizing virtual mobility, strengthen the co-operation among them and thus encourage them to develop joint programs.

The point of the course Virtual Mobility 101 is to prepare people to confidently sign up for distance courses with an international public, by showing how to study effectively with people from different cultures and countries.
